Driven by enormous commercial profits, unscrupulous breeders have flocked to this market. Teacup puppies are not a naturally occurring breed but rather an "artificial pet" created through deliberate human intervention and selective breeding.

The market imposes stringent standards on their size and weight: only small dogs measuring less than 20 centimeters in height and weighing under 1.8 kilograms can be deemed as teacup puppies; some even weigh less than half a kilogram! As a result, originally small dog breeds like Poodles, Pomeranians, Yorkshire Terriers, and Chihuahuas become the first victims when they're artificially miniaturized into "Teacup versions".
