What Happens in Pet Sematary

Pet Sematary is a horror novel by Stephen King, first published in 1983. The novel tells the story of Louis Creed, a doctor who moves with his family to a rural Maine town and discovers a mysterious pet cemetery in the woods near their house. When the family's cat, Church, is killed by a car, Louis buries it in the pet cemetery, and it is brought back to life, but it is now a malevolent and aggressive creature.

Louis Creed's Family

Louis Creed is a doctor who moves to Ludlow, Maine with his wife Rachel and their two young children, Ellie and Gage. Rachel is initially hesitant about the move, as she is from a more urban area and is worried about raising her children in a small town.

However, Louis is excited about the move and sees it as an opportunity for a new start. He quickly makes friends with his new neighbor, Jud Crandall, an elderly man who lives in a cabin on the edge of the woods.

The Pet Cemetery

One day, Louis's daughter Ellie's cat, Church, is killed by a car. Louis is devastated by the loss of his beloved pet, and he decides to bury it in the pet cemetery in the woods near his house.

Jud warns Louis that the pet cemetery is a dangerous place, and that he should not bury Church there. However, Louis ignores Jud's warning and buries Church in the cemetery.

Church Returns from the Dead

The next day, Church returns from the dead. However, he is now a different creature. He is aggressive and malevolent, and he begins to attack Louis and his family.

Louis is horrified by what has happened to Church, and he tries to kill him. However, Church is too powerful for Louis, and he is able to escape.

Rachel's Sister Zelda Dies

Some time later, Rachel's sister Zelda dies of cancer. Rachel is devastated by the loss of her sister, and she begins to drink heavily.

Louis, desperate to help his wife, decides to bury Zelda in the pet cemetery. He hopes that she will come back to life, just like Church did.

Zelda Returns from the Dead

Zelda does come back to life, but she is even more malevolent than Church. She begins to attack Louis and his family, and she eventually kills Rachel.

Louis is now alone, with only his two young children to protect. He knows that he must find a way to stop Zelda, or she will kill him and his children.

Louis Destroys the Pet Cemetery

Louis eventually learns that the pet cemetery is cursed. He also learns that the only way to stop Zelda is to destroy the cemetery.

Louis gathers a group of friends and family, and they set out to destroy the pet cemetery. They burn the cemetery to the ground, and they also kill Zelda.

Louis and his children are now safe, but they will never forget the horrors that they experienced at the pet cemetery.
