Pet hair can be a real pain to remove from your clothes and bedding, but it's especially annoying when it gets stuck in your washer. Not only can pet hair clog up your washing machine, but it can also redeposit itself onto your clothes during the wash cycle. If you're tired of dealing with pet hair in your washer, follow these simple steps to get rid of it for good.

How to Get Pet Hair Out of Washer

Gather Your Supplies

Before you start, you'll need to gather a few supplies:

  1. A vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment
  2. A lint roller
  3. A pair of rubber gloves
  4. A white vinegar
  5. A washing machine cleaner

Clean the Washer Drum

The first step is to clean the washer drum. To do this:

  1. Put on a pair of rubber gloves.
  2. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the washer drum.
  3. Turn the washer to the "clean washer" cycle (or the hottest water setting) and let it run through the entire cycle.
  4. Once the cycle is complete, remove the lint filter and clean it.
  5. Wipe down the inside of the washer drum with a damp cloth to remove any remaining pet hair or debris.

Vacuum the Washer

Once the washer drum is clean, you can vacuum it to remove any remaining pet hair. To do this:

  1. Attach the hose attachment to your vacuum cleaner.
  2. Turn on the vacuum cleaner and insert the hose into the washer drum.
  3. Vacuum the entire surface of the drum, paying special attention to the corners and crevices.

Use a Lint Roller

If there is still some pet hair stuck to the washer drum, you can use a lint roller to remove it. To do this:

  1. Tear off a sheet of lint roller paper.
  2. Press the lint roller against the washer drum, making sure to overlap the strips of paper.
  3. Continue rolling the lint roller until all of the pet hair is removed.

Run a Hot Water Cycle

Once you have removed all of the pet hair from the washer drum, you should run a hot water cycle to rinse out any remaining vinegar or detergent. To do this:

  1. Turn the washer to the "clean washer" cycle (or the hottest water setting) and let it run through the entire cycle.
  2. Once the cycle is complete, wipe down the inside of the washer drum with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.

Prevent Pet Hair Buildup

The best way to prevent pet hair from building up in your washer is to wash your pet's bedding regularly and to clean the lint filter after every load of laundry. You can also use a dryer sheet to help trap pet hair during the drying cycle.
